Considering it came from the hands of a composer who aspired to be a concert violinist, Sibelius' violin concerto is known for its technical difficulty and complexity -- the kind of piece made for a virtuoso. Fortunately for the Stamford Symphony Orchestra , it will be violinist Ilya Kaler who steps in to bring this composition to life at its concerts on Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16. "I don't think there are many people like Ilya Kaler, these days, who can actually play this piece," said Eckart Preu , the symphony's music director and conductor, in a recent interview.
