PHOTO: Stamford Mayor Michael A. Pavia
We are currently doing a story on how City Services delivered to Glenbrook merchants and small businesses, as we kick off our new Hyper-Local Sister News Blog for the Glenbrook section of Stamford.
In interviewing Glenbrook small businesses, we repeatedly encountered the attitude that city ignored the area and failed to provide Glenbrook merchants and homeowners with its fair share of city services.
So we are going to take the issues raised by these Glenbrook merchants have raised to the Mayor's and see how the issues are handled by Mayor Michael Pavia's good offices.
Today's issue is a rust old white Buick with out of state plates that has been parked or perhaps abandoned on a Glenbrook Street for over two weeks taking up vitally needed parking that Glenbrook merchants need for their customers.
Apparently Stamford is not big enough for a media spokesperson and Mayoral secretary Kathy Ruther needs reporters questions submitted, before she grant access to the Mayor and or his department heads.
The emailed questions for the mayors office was sent this morning and we are patiently waiting for a response and wondering if other news reporters and news outlets need to have their questions submitted in advance.
It appears that freedom of the press may not be alive and well in Stamford under the Pavia administration. Hopefully, the future the Pavia administration will demonstrate a more open and transparent face to the readers of Stamford Roundup and the other 350 Hyper-Local news blogs accross Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
Here are the questions emailed to MPavia@ci.stamford.ct.us
Is it legal for an out of state (New York) vehicle to be housed and parked in a City of Stamford street parking space?
If it is legal, what is to prevent an out of state car to be parked on the street for months at a time, and who would the City collect vitally needed property taxes taxes on this car housed in Stamford?
Is it legal for an out of state (New York) vehicle to be housed and parked in a City of Stamford street parking space indefinitely then how will a City Of Stamford keep that part of the street sanitary?
Will the driver of the street sweep get out of his truck and sweep around the out of state (New York) vehicle to be housed on a Stamford public street for months at a time?
Or will the sanitation of that portion of the street, be neglected for weeks or months at a time?
If it is NOT legal for an out of state (New York) vehicle to be housed and parked in a City of Stamford street parking space for weeks at a time, then what would be the procedure for a small business owner having such a vehicle removed from next to his or her business?
The vehicle in question is a white and rusted Buick with New York plates and an unpainted gray right front panel parked on Rose Street off of Hope Street in the Glenbrook section of the city?
The last, question would be are nuisance issues this given a higher priority in other sections of the City of Stamford, as some Glenbrook merchants have intimated?
Do Homeowners and Businesses in the Glenbrook section get fewer City services than other sections of the city?
As mentioned above, we are launching the Hyper-Local Glenbrook Roundup News Blog in the very near future and will eventually cover ever neighborhood in Stamford with a hyper local news blog..
