Underdog film that won the best picture Oscar

Stamford's Avon Theatre is sponsoring a 50th anniversary screening of "Marty" on April 15. The low-budget independent film was a sleeper hit and scored an upset at the Oscars by winning the best picture prize over much more expensive nominees. Hamden native Ernest Borgnine won the best actor Oscar for his work in the title role.
