A group of student leaders urged legislators Wednesday to bolster rules regarding the reporting of sexual abuse in schools, less than a week before a former Stamford High School teacher is scheduled to be sentenced for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with one of her students. Under House Bill 6186, mandatory reporters who fail to alert authorities about cases of suspected abuse would face a felony charge, instead of a misdemeanor.
