EPHRATAH, N.Y. >> Investigators say the crash of a volunteer medical flight in upstate New York two years ago occurred after the pilot became disoriented in low visibility, causing the small plane to spiral out of control before breaking up in midair. The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports that the National Transportation Safety Board says 70-year-old John Campbell of Stamford, Connecticut, turned in the wrong direction in "restricted visibility" near the end of the May 2013 Angel Flight from the Boston area to Rome, N.Y. The NTSB report says the twin-engine Piper went into a spiral and broke apart, with the bulk of the aircraft landing in a pond in the Fulton County town of Ephratah .
