Despite some encouraging signs that charitable giving might soon match pre-recession levels, local agencies are also seeing more residents who need food, rent or other assistance. At Family Centers in Greenwich, the impact of government spending cuts for food has meant the need for financial assistance has gone up, said Jim Vivier , vice president of the Greenwich and Stamford-based agency that served more than 23,000 people with health and family services last year.
