Paintings have a language all their own

A retrospective show of the abstract art of Heidi Lewis Coleman is on view at the Mayor's Gallery in Stamford Government Center through Jan. 5. A retrospective of the work of Stamford artist Heidi Lewis Coleman is on view at the Mayor's Gallery through Monday, Jan. 5. The show at the Stamford Government Center contains mixed-media pieces using acrylic paint and cut paper on canvas, incorporating the artist's own automatic, abstract writing. Coleman's "invented languages" are painted on paper, cut out and then applied to a painted canvas.
