Stamford teen charged with attempted robbery

An attempted robbery with a BB gun on Stamford's West Side late Thursday night led to three juveniles and an adult being arrested after a man was shot four times with the pellets. Kevin Diaz , 18, of High Street, was charged with second-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, attempted armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and carrying a dangerous weapon.

Helping children cope with poverty through service

Hundreds of low-income Connecticut high school students in Bridgeport, Stamford and Norwalk are sidestepping poverty and illiteracy, partly through learning to value their contributions in their own communities, as well as around the world, Jim Ziolkowski , founder of a Stamford-based nonprofit, told schoolchildren last week. Wilton man had 4 lbs of pot in car, Stamford cops say

A motor vehicle stop of a man who was using his cellphone while driving late Thursday night netted just under four pounds of marijuana being driven through Stamford by a Wilton man, police said. Kyle Levy , 26, of Lindentree Road, was charged with operating a drug factory, possession of more than a kilo of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Man gets 17 years for slashing ex and new boy friend

A former Stamford man convicted in November of using a knife to slash the mother of his young daughter and the woman's new boyfriend was accused at his sentencing Friday of putting a hit out on the two before being sent to prison for 17 years. Angered by the long sentence for something he claims he did not do, Divenson Petion, 27, repeatedly asked Judge Gary White when he would be able to see his 4-year-old daughter and was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs by judicial marshals without receiving an answer.

Mayor David Martin announced today Stamford's snow emergency will be lifted Wednesday at 6 a.m. Until then, vehicles must remain off snow emergency routes and residents can continue to park in the City's garages for free. Venezuelan financer faces sentencing in fraud scheme

A financier who pleaded guilty several years ago to running a fraud scheme involving hundreds of millions of dollars is set to be sentenced this week in Connecticut. The Venezuela-born Francisco Illarramendi ran unregistered hedge funds out of Stamford.
