Concerns about lax incident reporting to the state Department of Children and Families go back at least six years, documents prepared by two committees of the Stamford Board of Representatives show. The minutes from Board of Reps Education Committee meetings in 2008 and 2009 demonstrate that city legislators, prosecutors and police officers were concerned back then that serious incidents taking place in city schools were not properly reported to authorities.

Catholic Diocese Expands Stamford Facility For Retired Priests

A multimillion-dollar project will help deal with a wave of priest retirements in the next few years, Bishop Frank Caggiano of the Diocese of Bridgeport said during a groundbreaking ceremony in Stamford on Friday afternoon, Nov. 21. Construction will start in the spring on a 16-unit expansion at the Catherine Dennis Keefe, Queen of the Clergy retired priests residence at 274 Strawberry Hill Ave. It serves retired priests throughout the Roman Catholic Diocese, which includes all of Fairfield County and has 82 parishes. Caggiano said the diocese is expecting the retirement of about 80 priests in the next few years, and the expansion will play a large role in accommodating priests who want to stay in the community.

Two days after being excoriated by the top law enforcement official in lower Fairfield County, the city's top schools officials met with Stamford State's Attorney David Cohen on Friday, to discuss their handling of the Stamford High School teacher sex scandal . "I'd like to reassure parents that we have no intention of not acting on the feedback from State's Attorney Cohen," Superintendent Winifred Hamilton said Friday.

Stamford School Principals Granted Accelerated Rehabilitation

Stamford High School principal Donna Valentine and assistant principal Roth Nordin have been granted accelerated rehabilitation after allegedly failing to report a sexual relationship between a student and teacher. Two Stamford High School administrators accused of failing to report a sexual relationship between a teacher and student have been granted accelerated rehabilitation but will not return to work until the school system completes its own investigation, according to the superintendent.
